Emma (9 yrs) is having such a wonderful time at the Harmonious Family Choir. For a girl who is normally quite shy and nervous, she positively comes alive in the singing group and it's just magic to see.  We both love that it's more of a 'sing-a-long' than a formal choir and the dancing (quite like country dancing we know) and movement just make it more fun than ever. There's no emphasis on being perfect (or being a great singer!) which suits us just fine.  Emma enjoys the fact that it takes me longer to remember the words than it does her (so she can help me out when we sing the songs at home).  It's great that she's getting to know a mix of traditional songs from all over the world - I could never give her that on my own.   Doug, the leader, is a teddy bear of a man who leads us with such enthusiasm and good spirit.  It is impossible to feel uncomfortable around someone who has such a warm personality and an easy going manner.  He's very sweet and gentle with the children (which brings out the best in Emma) and is always smiling. He's also incredibly receptive to suggestions for songs and dances and really makes you feel like this is 'your' singing group.  In fact, he seems to prefer it when we do things 'our way' rather than 'his way'- which I think speaks volumes about him as a person.

There are so few activities today that you can share with your children (and enjoy just as much as they do), that also includes people of all ages.  It reminds me of a large extended family, gathering around the piano and having a whale of a time.  My husband was really surprised (when we persuaded him to join) and he saw Emma sing out with such gusto.  This group has done wonders for her confidence and I would whole-heartedly recommend it to anybody who wants to have fun with their kids, sharing a love of singing. Sometimes, when we leave, my face hurts because we have smiled and laughed so much - what more can I say but 'thank you'!
